Many of us dog lovers have had to really take a look at the latest dog food recall because it is affecting our loved ones and causing some serious dog health problems. Some dog owners have made the switch to avoid dog food from supermarkets and grocery stores all together. One point of caution….Do NOT go back and feed your dog and food that is or has ever been on the dog food recall list, for any year!
Most commercial dog food companies are interested in only one thing……making more money. So, as responsible dog owners WE have to look after the well-being of our dogs, since obviously, the commercial dog food companies will not. Always check the labels on your dog’s food and be sure not to give your dog any food made with sub-standard ingredients or fillers. Most of these types of ingredients will contain contaminants which could cause health problems for you dog. Even if you find out that the dog food does not contain foreign contaminating ingredients, most of these dog foods still offer little nutritional value, to say the least.
If you dig a little deeper, we find that wheat gluten appears to be at the root of most of the toxins in tainted dog food. Another one is called melamine, which is a chemical used in fertilizers, plastics, and laminates, which of course is not safe for your dog to be ingesting.
There are many other ingredients which can all be harmful to your dog. In order to keep your dog healthy and happy we, as dog owners, have keep up with what’s going on.
